Meme, Schmeme

GK, that fucker, tagged me for a meme.

I'll post the five questions and my answers, then maybe tag a few other suckers at the end, to whom I will then become a fucker. Maybe I should have called this entry, "Meme: Fuckers and Suckers." Hee! OK here we go.

1. Ten years ago I was ....

This one left me scratching my head. What was I doing ten years ago? That'd be 1998. Hmm. I was two years divorced. Still living in Kennesaw. This was a year before I met DreamGuy, so I guess I was "dating" that sorry-ass lying sack of shit Air Force guy who turned out to be married. Aw hell. Let's go to the calendar.

Why yes, I have saved my daily calendars since, um, well, since I started keeping them. I have my calendar from the year I graduated high school with all my babysitting gigs memorialized for all of time. So without further ado, I bring you May 1998, day by day:

1. Judy (nutritionist/shrink) appointment, and a big work deadline
4. 10AM Joel (my other shrink)
6. 2:45 - "To London" - oh yeah! I went to England that year! That was fun.
7. 6:55 - arrive Gatwick. Also this day was the memorial service for my supervisor who was killed in a car accident a few weeks before. On my first day in England, I went to the Tate Museum. I saw a John Singer Sargent exhibit - would that have been at the Tate? Later that night, I met an online acquaintance called Cally. GK, whatever happened to Cally?? She was a sweetheart. She was a contributor to the online poetry zine GK headed up at the time. She moved to the coast of England if I recall, and then...?
8. Ahh..Steve. Another online acquaintance meet-up. He was a fellow Pat Metheniac, and brought me the coolest home-made mix CD as a gift. We walked around and saw lots of sights. Later that night, I was to meet up with a friend I'd met on an earlier trip to England (Keith), and he was to be my companion at the Pat Metheny show at Shepherd's Bush. He was a no-show! Bastard! But who cares, the best was yet to come. Because the next day, I was to meet...
9. RAY! He was so awesome - met me at the train, and let me bunk on his sofa for a few days. He had a friend over, and we shared some lovely, companionable evenings eating home-made meals and sitting round the peat fire watching movies. It was just what the doctor ordered after my whirlwind first days in busy London, fraught with excitement and angst as they were. Thanks, again, Ray!
10. Still at Ray's
11. I went further west to Malvern where I met one of my father's sisters for the first time. I enjoyed a lovely stay in her tiny pensioner's flat in the beautiful Malvern Hills. We walked the hills, had fish & chips, and shared lots of old family stories. Got my period. Figures!
12. Still in Malvern with my aunt, this day brought one of the most embarrassing fat moments of my entire existence. Ray, did I ever tell you about this? Good God. OK my aunt didn't have her own car, but her friend did. It was a teeny tiny thing with a .25 hp motor, I swear. So the friend comes to collect us to take us...somewhere. We go toodling off in the little car. Now, remember I weighed well over 300 lbs still at this time. Well we were at a stop light at the bottom of a hill. We start going up the hill, and the car. won't. go. Folks, I had to get out of the car so she wouldn't ruin her transmission trying to get up that hill. It was the most mortifying thing that I think ever happened to me because of my weight.

We're not even 2 weeks in, GK. Aren't you glad you tagged me????

Moving on...
13. Return trip to Atlanta - departed 11:35 am from Gatwick, arrived 6:30 pm Atlanta time.
15. Judy
18. Apparently I was depressed, and my ankles were hurting.
19. Ankles still hurting
20. Ankles still hurting, a training session at work at 9:30
22. Bubbapalooza at the Star Bar (don't think I actually went, no recall)
25. Off for Memorial day
26. Duty officer at work
27. 4:00 note to make a call for work
29. Judy, Dance (most likely a BBW dance)

And there you have it friends, May 1998!

The rest of these will come much more easily.

2. Five things on today’s To-Do list ....

There is no "today's To-Do list." I could leave it at that, but I'll try to play along and tell you five things that would have been on my list, had I had a list: 1) early to the office to be duty officer, 2) return medical malpractice lawyer's phone call, 3) call mom for update on dad, 4) 2PM conference call, 5) Give mom receipt amounts (forgot to do this)

3. Things I’d do if I were a billionaire ....
Pay my debts, buy two Porsches - one for daily driving & one for rally racing, set up my family & DreamGuy's with everything they need, travel the world, make huge donations to all my favorite charities & suprise a few random strangers.

4. Three bad habits ...
Smoking, not sleeping, procrastinating

5. Six jobs I’ve had in my life ....
Audio Recordings Archives Assistant at the GSU Pullen Library (cataloging the then-new Johnny Mercer collection)
Professional Violinist
Special Ed Teacher
Telemarketer
Patient Care Technician (orderly in the state mental institution)
f3d3ral ag3nt

There. Done! Procrastinate that!

Edited to add: Almost forgot. I'm supposed to tag five more suckers. Well guess what? Fuck that. I may be a sucker, but I don't need anybody calling me a fucker. So the buck stops here. Sue me!

Cally, et al.
The last time I heard from Cally, she was doing a nutrition thing -- with some success, I think. If you Google her name (I have the last name if you've forgotten it), I'm pretty sure she'll turn up. She's one of several people from the old days I wish I could meet face to face.

When you talked about Ray, I thought you meant Ray Abruzzi, the madman. Now there's someone I'd like to meet, if only to verify the truth of his drunk-a-logs.

You brought back a world of memories.

Almost right! I didn't meet Helen until about a year later in 1999. I was going out with someone else at that point (Susan). but close enough :)

I remember feeling a little guilty that all you did when you came to see me was sit around and watch films, and have an extremely relaxed time - but you assured me that that was exactly what you felt like doing. And it was good to meet you and chat and get to know each other!

I still have that sofa too. Thanks for not tagging me I *hate* that and refuse to do memes if I get tagged as a matter of principle.

Hope you are coping and doing as well as you can be with all that is going on at the moment! Take care.

Well fuck me all to hell
Not really. Erm. OK well I stepped in THAT one! Sorry Helen! I just *wish* I'd met you that trip? OK well no making up a gaffe like that. ANYWAY. I'm surprised I have so few photos from that trip - I may have to dig thru my old photo boxes and see if I have any there, they've got to be somewhere. Thought I got pics of your bike & everything. At this point I can't even remember if I made 1 trip or 2. I could have sworn I went twice. Now I'm totally confused! Will have to check my diaries when I get back from the office.

Re: doublefucked
Not that much of a gaffe, I think Susan only popped round briefly - if I had met Helen by then she would have been there all the time as well so you would have seen more of her. You only visited me once if you did come to England twice. Bike wise I probably still had the BMW back then (it was white).

No worries. Just wish my health hadn't got so bad as I have a few friends in the US - and of course I would love to visit Aus with Helen but I doubt if I would ever be up to travelling to either place.
